- Description of the Event:
On 21st August 2024, the students of ECE batch 2022-2026 of Meghnad Saha Institute of Technology went to Durgapur CMERI-CSIR along with Prof. (Dr.) Chandi Pani, Coordinator of the Industry visit, Prof. (Dr.) Sudip Dogra, Dr. Swapnadip De, Mr. Joyanto Roychoudhary and Mrs. Shiuly Ganguly. It is a research institute constituting of many learned scientists and engineers . All the students have highly benefitted from the visit as they were taken to multiple labs where various innovative and lucrative research works are being conducted.First the students went to a mechanical section where they saw a tractor and a tiller. The tractor was an electronic one. It uses prismatic cells of blast proof lithium ferrophosphate. This is especially made for women. The plough is Double time MB plough. There are 2 gears on the 2 sides (3 gear each). It is made up of BLDC motors of efficiency 85 to 90 percent. Next they were taken to visit the EV tiller. It helps in pollution control .Generally tillers have high vibration but since it is EV, so it helps with low vibration. The motors were of 2.1KW and 48V.PMSM(Permanent magnet synchronous motor). It has over 90% efficiency but the architecture is complex. The trollly is of 500 KG. It has a SOC display which warns in case of low battery with a beep sound. A detachable battery makes the vehicle more user friendly. Next they were taken to a battery operated boat. It has a solar charging system along with a normal charging system. After that the students were taken to observe a power transport system. It operates on Faraday’s law and is generally used for AUVs(Autonomous underwater vehicle) and had the benefit of wireless charging. The students were made to visit a section where they saw 3 types of motors BLDC, Permanent Magnet Motor and wheelhub motor. They got to know a lot about each of them and various terms like cogging torque and damper winding were introduced to them. The institute is working on Axia flux. They also saw an inverter circuit besides these, where the speed of motor is being controlled by current. It has a capacity of 800V (used in KIA cars). They also saw a hydrogen duel cell driven tractor. It is something where combustion is not used. Toyota Mirai runs on hydrogen fuel cell but it is not rechargeable .
