The OASIS Scholarship is a financial aid initiative by the Government of West Bengal aimed at supporting students from Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC). Managed by the Backward Classes Welfare and Tribal Development Department, this scholarship helps economically weaker students pursue their education without financial constraints.
The OASIS Scholarship is divided into two main categories: Pre-Matric Scholarship for students in Classes 9 and 10, and Post-Matric Scholarship for those pursuing higher secondary, undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional courses. The financial assistance covers tuition fees, maintenance allowance, and other educational expenses, ensuring students from marginalized communities can continue their studies.
To be eligible, applicants must be permanent residents of West Bengal and belong to SC, ST, or OBC categories. The annual family income should not exceed ₹2.5 lakh for SC/ST students and ₹1 lakh for OBC students. The scholarship amount varies based on the student’s educational level and is disbursed through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system directly into the applicant’s bank account.
The application process is entirely online through the OASIS portal (oasis.gov.in), where students can register, fill out the application form, and upload necessary documents such as caste certificate, income certificate, Aadhaar card, and educational qualification proofs. After submission, the application must be verified by the respective institution before final approval.
The OASIS Scholarship has played a significant role in increasing access to education for underprivileged students in West Bengal. By reducing financial barriers, it has helped thousands of students complete their studies and improve their career prospects, contributing to social and economic upliftment.
