Industrial Training

The Department of Electrical Engineering at Meghnad Saha Institute of Technology (MSIT) has always prioritized the holistic development of its students by integrating strong academic foundations with comprehensive industry exposure. One of the cornerstones of this initiative is the department’s focus on Training and Industrial Visit activities, which are designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application. The department organizes extensive summer and winter training programs in collaboration with industry experts and training partners. These seasonal training programs cover cutting-edge domains such as Python programming, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Internet of Things (IoT), Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA), and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC). These sessions are structured to provide hands-on exposure to the latest tools and technologies, thereby preparing students to meet industry standards and expectations.

In addition to technical training, the department conducts regular sessions on personality development, soft skills improvement, aptitude training, and mock interviews to enhance the employability of students. These sessions help students build self-confidence, improve communication, master interpersonal skills, and perform effectively in group discussions and personal interviews. By fostering these skills, the department ensures that students not only gain technical expertise but also become industry-ready professionals with strong leadership and collaboration abilities.

The department has established strong ties with industry through internship opportunities for students in reputed companies and emerging startups. These internships allow students to gain real-world experience, understand corporate functioning, and contribute to live projects under the guidance of professionals. Such exposure plays a pivotal role in shaping their professional journey and broadening their career prospects. The internships are carefully planned and monitored by the department to ensure relevance to the students’ academic background and career interests.

Another key highlight of the department’s activities is the organization of regular industrial visits. Students are taken to a variety of industrial facilities such as thermal power plants, solar power plants, substations, and manufacturing units ranging from small-scale industries to large-scale operations. These visits provide students with firsthand experience of power generation, distribution, and manufacturing processes. Notably, students also visit railway locomotive factories, where they witness the complex systems and technologies used in modern transportation infrastructure. These visits are more than just educational tours; they are carefully planned learning experiences where students interact with engineers and plant officials, enabling them to correlate academic concepts with industrial applications.

A significant milestone in the department’s industrial training initiatives is the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with Employees of Bakreshwar Thermal Power Plant. Under this MoU, students are offered a 15-day intensive training program at the plant. During this program, they are exposed to various aspects of thermal power generation including boiler operation, turbine control, switchgear operation, instrumentation, and control systems. The training at Bakreshwar helps students understand the functioning of large-scale thermal power stations and prepares them for careers in the power sector. The collaboration with Bakreshwar Thermal Power Plant is a testimony to the department’s commitment to providing quality industrial training to its students.

The department also maintains collaborations with several organizations and technical training centers to continuously update and improve the training content in alignment with the latest industry trends.

Through this rich blend of technical training, industrial exposure, and skill development initiatives, the Department of Electrical Engineering at MSIT aims to nurture well-rounded engineers who are capable of solving real-world problems with innovation and efficiency. The continuous interaction with industries, combined with in-house training facilities and professional grooming sessions.

The department places special focus on Industrial Visits, which are conducted regularly to give students direct exposure to various electrical and manufacturing environments. The types of industries visited include:

  1. Thermal Power Plants – Students observe large-scale power generation processes, including boiler operations, turbine functions, and control room mechanisms.
  2. Solar Power Plants – These visits familiarize students with photovoltaic technology, grid integration, and solar inverters.
  3. Electrical Substations – Students get hands-on exposure to transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, and relay systems, understanding transmission and distribution operations.
  4. Small and Large Manufacturing Units – These range from small-scale motor or component fabrication shops to large industrial setups like cable manufacturing, electrical panel assembly, and automated production lines.
  5. Railway Locomotive Factories – Visits to these specialized facilities allow students to learn about traction systems, locomotive design, electric propulsion, and control electronics used in the railway sector.
