About The Department

Mechanical engineers use the principles of energy, materials, and mechanics to design and manufacture machine components and devices of all types. They create the processes and systems that drive technology and industry. The discipline is closely associated with automobile, aeronautical and aerospace engineering. Mechanical Engineering Department of Meghand Saha Institute of Technology is one of the most sought after streams of the institute. It started functioning from the year 2012 with a sanctioned intake of 60 students in every year. The Department is fully equipped to meet the requirements of B.Tech course as per curriculum of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, West Bengal.

The focus of the department is to offer quality education in the specialized fields of Design, Manufacturing, Thermal and Materials engineering. The strength of the department, apart from its Students, is its dedicated, qualified and experienced Faculties. They are actively engaged in teaching and mentoring students apart from supporting and encouraging their research activities in the different fields of engineering. Mechanical workshop plays a crucial role to impart practical training and knowledge of manufacturing processes. Workshop of MSIT is equipped with facilities like machines, tools & equipments and is suitably sectioned into various shops like Fitting shop, Carpentry Shop, Foundry Shop, Welding Shop, Forging Shop and Machining Shop. It is capable to work as a mini factory. The department also boasts to have state of the art laboratories like Strength of Material, Materials testing, Dynamics of Machines, Fluid Mechanics, Fluid Machinery, Fluid Power Control, Internal Combustion Engine, Heat & Mass Transfer, Refrigeration & Air conditioning, Mechanical Measurement & Metrology, and Computer Aided Design (CAD) Lab with ANSYS Software. The department is highly encouraging towards the students to take up higher education through GATE and other competitive examination. A fair number of students have taken up post graduation studies in reputed national and international institutes like IIT Madras, IIT Kharagpur, NIT Trichy, NIT Rourkella, IIEST Shibpur, Jadavpur University, University of Padova, Italy, University of Cincinnati, USA, Wayne State University, USA etc. The department broods itself as a proud presenter to mechanical engineers working in large conglomerates like, Asahi India Glass Ltd. Simplex Infrastructure Ltd., CUMMINS India, Amazon India, Ramkey Infrastructure, TCS, TVS Motors Ltd., Pernod Ricard India (P) Ltd., among many.

Apart from the technical courses the department emphasizes on courses like Human Values, Ethics and Management Science to prepare thestudents to be industry ready. Special training for the students are organized during every semester break for developing various technical (SOLIDWORKS, MATLAB, Ansys etc.) and soft skills among the students. Elocution, Debate, Communication, Workshop, Seminar, industry visit and Industrial training are part of our education program. In addition to quality education, we provide application and job oriented technical training and knowledge to meet the industry requirements by our dedicated and experienced faculty members and technical staff.
