About The Department

The department of Computer Science and Engineering offers an undergraduate engineering degree program since the establishment of the university named 'West Bengal University of Technology' in the year 2001 (now renamed Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad University of Technology,) with a view to offer quality higher education to numerous worthy young fellows as well as to meet the gigantic demand of highly qualified specialists in the field.

The department also offers postgraduate engineering degree program since the year 2011. The university curriculum aims to give theoretical and practical knowledge in the areas of Advances of computer science. A post-graduate degree in Computer Science and Engineering is a must if students aspire to set himself / herself apart from the anonymous mass of "computer professionals" and to assume a leading role in transforming the industry, be it through research, advanced development, teaching, or entrepreneurship.

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering is continuing this legacy by advancing the frontiers of computing. We have a three-fold mission: to create, disseminate knowledge, and to provide service to our communities. On the research front, our faculty, staff, and students are exploring innovative ideas in various areas of computer science.

The Department has a comprehensive university curriculum on topics related to all aspects of Computer Hardware and Software with an emphasis on practical learning. The course structure is updated and includes courses on nascent topics to equip our students with the latest developments in Computer Science and Engineering.

The Department has state-of-the-art laboratory infrastructure named 'Centre of Excellence in Computing & Informatics' (CECI) and computing equipment supported by high speed Ethernet and wireless networks. It has also various subscriptions of Online Journals (IEL) and offline journals.

ABOUT

ACM brings together computing educators, researchers, and professionals to inspire dialogue, share resources, and address the field's challenges. As the world’s largest computing society, ACM strengthens the profession's collective voice through strong leadership, promotion of the highest standards, and recognition of technical excellence. ACM supports the professional growth of its members by providing opportunities for life‐long learning, career development, and professional networking.

Founded at the dawn of the computer age, ACM’s reach extends to every part of the globe, with more than half of its nearly 100,000 members residing outside the U.S. Its growing membership has led to Councils in Europe, India, and China, fostering networking opportunities that strengthen ties within and across countries and technical communities. Their actions enhance ACM’s ability to raise awareness of computing’s important technical, educational, and social issues around the world.

Special Interest Groups Form around ACM’s Powerful, Vibrant Communities:
Networking opportunities in ACM’s 37 Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are always expanding, reflecting the growth of computing’s discrete disciplines and technical communities. The leading representatives of their fields, ACM SIGs sponsor annual conferences, workshops, and symposia serving practitioner‐ and research‐based constituencies. Because they provide objective arenas for novel, often competing ideas, many of these meetings have become premier global events.

     Chapters: ACM's "Local Neighborhoods":
ACM’s broad‐based infrastructure supports more than 860 professional and student chapters worldwide. These "local neighborhoods" offer opportunities for members to gain access to critical research and establish personal networking systems.

     ACM, Member-driven, Volunteer-led:
ACM offers volunteer opportunities for members and non‐members that create networking possibilities and enhance career development. At the grassroots level, ACM volunteers serve a growing international community of researchers, practitioners and students by lending valuable assistance at conferences, publications, webinars, and other events.

     Student Chapter Resources and Benefits:
The following benefits are available to all types of ACM Student Chapters; they include:

  • * Administrative Interface - allowing you to manage your chapter’s member roster, update your chapter’s contact information, and much more!

  • * Chapter Web Tools – ACM offers Chapters the following web tools: website hosting, wikis and blogs. For more information please go to: http://www.acm.org/chapters/chapter-web-tools

  • * Local Activities Calendar – You can let chapter members, ACM members, and other computing professionals, know about your upcoming events: http://campus.acm.org/public/chapters_conf_cal/index.cfm

  • * Chapter Member Locator: If a group of chapter organizers do not have enough members (10 in total are needed), ACM will send a message to a selected group of ACM members that might be interested in helping to start the Chapter. Please contact local_activities@acm.org if you are interested in this service.

  • * ACM Distinguished Speakers Program – The ACM Distinguished Speaker Program is one of the premier technology outreach programs in the computing industry. The ACM DSP has over 250 lectures from nearly 100 different speakers! For more information, please visit: http://www.dsp.acm.org/

  • * UPE/ACM Student Chapter Scholarship Award - Upsilon Pi Epsilon, the Honorary Computer Science Society, and ACM encourage academic excellence for students in the computing discipline. UPE initiated this award with ACM to raise the importance of academic achievement and professional commitment in our future computer professionals. Up to two awards of $1,000 each are given from UPE each year to competition winners. Winners also receive a certificate of commendation.

  • * ACM Student Chapter Excellence Program - This program recognizes outstanding ACM student chapters in several categories. Chapters that display considerable initiative during the academic year are encouraged to apply. For more information, please visit: http://www.acm.org/chapters/student-chapter-excellence-awards

  • * Promotional Materials - ACM can provide Chapters with materials for Chapter events: http://campus.acm.org/public/profqj/promotional_materials.cfm

IEEE Computer Society (sometimes abbreviated Computer Society or CS) is a professional society of IEEE. Its purpose and scope is "to advance the theory, practice, and application of computer and information processing science and technology" and the "professional standing of its members." The CS is the largest of 39 technical societies organized under the IEEE Technical Activities Board. The IEEE Computer Society sponsors workshops and conferences, publishes a variety of peer-reviewed literature, operates technical committees, and develops IEEE computing standards. It supports more than 200 chapters worldwide and participates in educational activities at all levels of the profession, including distance learning, accreditation of higher education programs in computer science, and professional certification in software engineering.

The formation of IEEE Computer Society Student Chapter Branch of Meghnad Saha Institute of Technology was officially approved on March 19, 2019. This Student Chapter Branch hosts and organizes wide varieties of technical events including Technical Talks by eminent professors and industry personnel, Seminars, Workshops, Symposium and Prototype competition, Conferences and Tech throughout the year. The primary objective for this initiative is to provide a wonderful opportunity for students to broaden their knowledge of computing, advance engineering principles and to interact with other students and Professors who have an interest in computing. Besides, providing a wide exposure to the students in the domain of research as well as coding, this also provides them a platform to exhibit and enhance their skillsets.
