About IIC-MSIT

Our Institute has a rich culture of Innovation and Entrepreneurship activities. The Innovation, Incubation & Entrepreneurship Development Cell (IIEDC) of Meghnad Saha Institute of Technology (MSIT) was formed on 03.03.2015. The centre would enable students to reshape their business skills to prepare a practical prototype and work out business plan. This centre is bringing together student innovator, entrepreneurs, alumni, venture capitalized, banks, subject experts and mentors to provide an ecosystem that will help students understand and the process and policy related to commercializing their business.   All the departments are closely associated with IIEDC cell by providing members to the committee. The committee members along with other faculty members of the department actively participate by organizing various programs and by mentoring to different application software as well as hardware projects.

In 2019, the IIEDC was reformed and emerged as the Institution’s Innovation Council of Meghnad Saha Institute of Technology (IIC-MSIT) under Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell, Government of India under the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) to promote innovation and entrepreneurship among students in higher education institutions. IIC-MSIT was established to foster a culture of innovation and provide a platform for students to showcase their innovative ideas and projects.

IIC-MSIT organizes seminars, workshops, training sessions, etc. since its inception on various aspects of innovation, such as idea generation, design thinking, prototyping, IPR, and business model development to enhance the innovation and entrepreneurial skills of students. IIC-MSIT conducts idea competitions to encourage students to come up with innovative solutions to real-world problems. It also organizes hackathons, which are intense coding or problem-solving events where students collaborate to develop innovative solutions within a limited time frame.

IIC-MSIT provides incubation support to selected innovative projects or startups. They offer mentorship, guidance, and access to resources such as infrastructure, funding opportunities, and networking platforms to help students turn their ideas into viable businesses. IIC-MSIT facilitates collaboration between students, academia, and industry. They organize industry visits, guest lectures, and interaction sessions with industry experts to expose students to real-world challenges and industry best practices.

The primary objective of the Institution Innovation Council is to foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in the academic ecosystem. It encourages students to develop innovative solutions to real-world problems and nurtures their entrepreneurial skills to transform those ideas into viable businesses or social enterprises. The IIC acts as a facilitator, catalyst, and coordinator for various activities related to innovation and entrepreneurship within the institution.

Vision:

To emerge as a Centre of Excellence in the field of Entrepreneurship Promotion and to act as a catalyst in transforming employable to entrepreneurial communities by translating latent ideas into viable enterprises

Mission:

To be an acknowledged unit by prospective entrepreneurs and competent authorities, and committed to entrepreneurship education, training and research through competitive, self-motivated and self-driven practices. In order to achieve the vision, the following missions has been adopted.

Innovation Workshops: Organises of different workshops and training sessions to enhance the innovation and entrepreneurial skills of students. These workshops cover various aspects of innovation, such as idea generation, design thinking, prototyping, and business model development.

Idea Competitions: Conducts idea competitions to encourage students to come up with innovative solutions to real-world problems. These competitions provide a platform for students to present their ideas and receive feedback from industry experts and mentors.

Hackathons: Organises hackathons, which are intense coding or problem-solving events where students collaborate to develop innovative solutions within a limited time frame. Hackathons encourage teamwork, creativity, and rapid prototyping.

Incubation Support: Provides incubation support to selected innovative projects or startups. They offer mentorship, guidance, and access to resources such as infrastructure, funding opportunities, and networking platforms to help students turn their ideas into viable businesses.

Industry Collaboration: Facilitates collaboration between students, academia, and industry. They organize industry visits, guest lectures, and interactive sessions with industry experts to expose students to real-world challenges and industry best practices.

Innovation Showcase: Organizes innovation showcases or exhibitions where students can exhibit their innovative projects, prototypes, and research work. These events provide a platform for students to showcase their talents and creations to a wider audience, including potential investors and industry professionals.

Entrepreneurship Development Programs: Conducts entrepreneurship development programs to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to start their own ventures. These programs cover various aspects of entrepreneurship, including business planning, funding options, marketing strategies, and legal aspects.

Innovation Challenges: Organizes innovation challenges on specific themes or problem statements to encourage students to solve real-world problems through innovation. These challenges may be sponsored by government agencies, industry partners, or non-profit organizations.

Networking and Collaboration: Promotes networking and collaboration among students, faculties, and innovators across different institutions. They organize events, conferences, and seminars where participants can interact, share ideas, and collaborate on innovative projects.

Innovation Ambassadors: IICs appoint innovation ambassadors from among the students to promote the culture of innovation within their institutions. These ambassadors act as catalysts and mentors, encouraging and guiding their peers in the pursuit of innovation and entrepreneurship.

The Objective of IIC-MSIT

The objective of our Institution Innovation Council (IIC) is to foster innovation and entrepreneurship among students and faculty members within the institution. IIC-MSIT aims to create a culture of innovation and provide a platform for nurturing and promoting innovative ideas and startups. Overall, the objective of IIC-MSIT is to create a supportive ecosystem that nurtures innovation, encourages entrepreneurial thinking, and enables the successful implementation of innovative ideas within the educational institution

 The specific objectives of IIC-MSIT:

Promoting innovation: The IIC encourages students and faculty members to think creatively, develop innovative solutions, and apply them to real-world problems. It aims to create an environment that fosters innovation and supports the development of innovative projects.

Entrepreneurship development: The IIC promotes an entrepreneurial mindset among students, encouraging them to convert their innovative ideas into viable business ventures. It provides guidance, mentoring, and support to students interested in starting their own ventures.

Industry interaction: The IIC facilitates interaction between the institution and industries, fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and technology transfer. It helps students and faculty members connect with industry experts, professionals, and potential investors, creating opportunities for internships, research collaborations, and industry-sponsored projects.

Skill enhancement: The IIC organizes workshops, seminars, training programs, and competitions to enhance the innovation and entrepreneurial skills of students and faculty members. It encourages them to develop skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, communication, and leadership, which are crucial for innovation and entrepreneurship.

Incubation and startup support: The IIC will establish an incubation center or collaborate with existing incubators to provide support and resources to students and faculty members interested in starting their own startups. It offers mentorship, infrastructure, funding guidance, and networking opportunities to help them turn their ideas into successful businesses.

Intellectual property rights (IPR) awareness: The IIC raises awareness about intellectual property rights among students and faculty members. By having an IIC, institutions contribute to the national agenda of promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, and startup culture. 1. Conducted Entrepreneurship Development Programs (EDP) for the students and publics.

1. Received 4 star rating in the IIC calendar year 2020-21. We are among top 10 Institutes of Eastern Indian having highest star rating (4 star ).
